LIGHT-MATTER INTERACTION: Focusing on Polariton Chemistry and Physics

Cultural Centre "Jules Pascin" - the Synagogue
39 Baba Vida Street
Vidin 3700
Bulgaria

Organizers: Nimrod Moiseyev (Technion) and Alex Kuleff (Heidelberg)

Arrival on May 25th

Polaritons are mixtures of molecular states with quantum electromagnetic (QED) states. In chemistry, the goal is to control reaction rates and enable new chemical processes at the nanoscale. In physics, we will focus on the differences between the interactions of atoms and molecules with classical and quantum electromagnetic fields. We will examine the ability to observe the effects of quantum light when atomic and molecular systems are exposed to high-intensity laser fields that are usually treated classically.
Two overview introduction talks, one on Polariton Chemistry and the other on Polariton Physics , will be given in addition to the talks by invited speakers
:Two discussion panels among all partiipants will be held
A: On  open problems in the feasibility of controlling reaction rates by dark cavity
B: On open problems in the feasibility of observing QED (quantum light) effects in strong laser field experiments

A one-day tour to the Belogradchik Rocks, Magura Cave with Stone Age drawings, and Baba Vida Castle will be guided by Ms. Albena Darakchieva

The evening before the tour, Raymond Kravis Professor of Geology (Emeritus), Alan Matthews from the Hebrew University, Former Director of the National Natural History Collections will deliver an introductory talk 'How geology, wind and rain shaped the formation of the Belogradchik rocks'.
